"The history, philosophy, and values competency area involves knowledge, skills, and attitudes that connect the history, philosophy, and values of the profession to one's current professional practice. This competency area embodies the foundations of the profession from which current and future research and practice will grow. The commitment to demonstrating this competency area ensures that our present and future practices are informed by an understanding of our history, philosophy, and values." (ACPA & NASPA, 2010, p. 14).
History, Philosophy, and Values is one of the competencies in which I am at a basic level. I have taken the CSP 6010 Course, Foundations and Functions of Higher Education. In this course, we learned the history of higher education, as well as functional areas and basic skills about the profession.
In our Educational Outcomes of American Colleges and Universities course, CSP 6040, I created an implementation plan (I-Plan), in which I culminated my knowledge from many classes and field experience to create an institution. This falls under history, philosophy, and values, because it applies what I have learned to future practice (creation of an institution).
